Japanese Food

Japanese food is very different from American.

From the way in which it is eaten to the way that it tastes.

Japanese people love western culture.

Not uncommon to find McDonald's.

There are many different types of restaurants.

Traditional Japanese cuisine served in places such as sushi restaurants(sushi-ya)

or ryootei(high class restaurants).

Famous Japanese food is sushi, often misunderstood.

Sushi is named for rice in it, which is seasoned with vinegar, sugar, and salt.

Some sushi contains raw fish, but not a requirement for sushi.

Raw fish actually called sashimi.

Included with the sashimi is wasabe(Japanese horseradish). Small amount of wasabe will eliminate the taste of the sashimi but bring your eyes to tears(very hot).

Makizushi is a delicious snack which compliments Japanese cuisine.

It is nori (dried seaweed) wrapped around outside of sushi rice, with different toppings such as fish, cucumbers, and eggs in the middle.

Makizushi dipped in soy sauce and enjoyed.

Tempura consists of seafood and vegetables deep-fried in batter.

Some common ingredients are eggplant(Nasu), squid(Ika),sweet potato(satsuma-imo), and jumbo shrimp.

Yakitori favorite Japanese food.

Chicken on bamboo skewer cooked over charcoal with sweet and sour sauce.

Ahhhhhhh...chicken shish-kebab.
